MEET TAUYA MPOFU
Four years ago, I thought I would be going into a career as a lawyer or a businessman of some sort, but there was no real passion behind those choices. I didn't stress myself out over it because I was only 14 years old at the time. And then I joined UPYC.
Since being in UPYC I have traveled the world and met so many incredible people, creating friendships that will last for decades. Through the youth choir I found my passion in music and chose to persue a career in music production. I was also given the opportunity to partake in an amazing exchange program with the Kokopelli Choirs Association in Canada. UP Youth Choir is a beautiful program that truly has impacted my life in a hugely positive way.
MEET ANNETTE LANGE
Annette was part of the UPYC family from 2011-2013 which deeply impacted and shaped her into the person she is now. After matriculating, she joined an international missions organization called YWAM (Youth With A Mission), and was sent on Outreaches to Uganda and South Sudan.
She is still involved in missions as a full-time volunteer and is currently in Brisbane, Australia, working with an independent film and acting company, aiming to train and equip aspiring actors and filmmakers for the entertainment industry.
MEET SIBUSISO MALINGA
UPYC has brought countless blessings into my life. It has been such a privilege to serve as the technical intern for this year.
Giving back to the choir has helped me grow in a number of ways. Firstly, it has trained me to lead and manage in an area I previously had little expertise on. With help from the rest of the team, every concert held has been successful and has changed many lives for the better.
Secondly, it has allowed me to look out for my fellow choristers and to be there to love and support them. Despite the struggles each of us face, we find comfort in knowing that we can rely on each other's warmheartedness.
Thirdly, it has opened me up to myself in helping me understand and love myself better. Music is a source of so much joy, hope and love. It's something that unifies us all. Being in an accepting and warm environment has enabled me to find comfort in the person that I am. It is an environment where we celebrate differences in an unconditional manner. I hope to pursue a career in psychology in the near future to better understand the interesting intricacies of human thought, behaviour and emotion. I hope to take with me what I've learned and experienced and apply it in all that I'll embark on in the years to come.
UPYC is truly a jewel that is worth being a part of and I will treasure it forever.
